First Baptist Church Art Car
At the January 29, 2023, quarterly update, approval was received from the congregation to begin the process of creating an Art Car to be placed in the church parking lot on the corner of 4th Street and Warren.
After a common vision was established, the team set out to find just the right car for the project. A 1941 Hudson Commodore was located here in town in the back storage lot at Currell’s Bargain Barn. The Currells were wonderful to work with and allowed the church to purchase the car for only $1,500.
After purchasing the Hudson, Tri-R Towing donated their services to move the car into the MacLean’s back yard where it would be worked on by the team for the next several months.
While the Hudson was being transformed the team set about preparing the corner where the car would eventually be displayed. The team had decided on a Historic Route 66 theme. The City of Winslow was a huge help by donating most of the materials for the actual corner motif.
After hours of grinding, sanding, metal work and priming, the Hudson was finally taken to Dalton Motors
Dalton Motors donated their time to do the final preparatory work and then paint the car the period specific “seafoam” green that the team had selected for the color. The paint itself was donated to the project by O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.
The painted car was then taken by Dalton Motors to House of Tint where the vinyl decals and scriptures were applied free of labor charges.
After being worked on and housed at House of Tint the car was moved to the FBC parking lot on the evening of Saturday, September 23rd.
